13 Reliability Testings of Terminal-crimped Wires

Table of Contents

Terminal-crimped wires testing generally involves the following items: insertion force test, durability test, insulation resistance test, vibration test, mechanical shock test, cold and hot shock test, mixed gas corrosion test and so on.

I. Insertion force test

Purpose:Verify that the insertion force of the terminal-crimped cable meets the product specifications.

Principle:The terminal-crimped cable is fully plugged in or pulled out at the specified rate, and the corresponding force value is recorded.

II. Durability test

Purpose:Evaluate the impact of repeated insertion and unplug on the terminal-crimped wire, and simulate the plug and pull status of the wire in actual use.
Principle:Continuously insert and unplug the terminal-crimped cable at the specified rate until the specified number of times is reached.

III.Insulation resistance test

Purpose:Verify whether the insulation performance of the terminal-crimped wire meets the requirements of circuit design or whether the resistance value meets the relevant technical requirements when it is subjected to high temperature, humidity and other environmental stress.
Principle:The resistance value shown by applying a voltage to the insulated part of the terminal-crimped wire, resulting in a leakage current on the surface or inside of the insulated part.

IV.Withstand voltage test

Purpose:Verify whether the terminal-crimped wire can work safely at the rated voltage and whether it can withstand over-potential, so as to evaluate whether the insulation material or insulation gap of the terminal-crimped wire is suitable.
Principle:Between contacts of terminal-crimped wires, and between the contact and the shell, the specified voltage is applied and the specified time is maintained , and the breakdown or discharge of the sample is observed.

V.Contact resistance test

Purpose:Verify the resistance generated when the current flows through the contact surface.
Principle:By specifying the current on the terminal-crimped wire and measuring the voltage drop at both ends of the wire, the resistance value is obtained.

VI.Vibration testing

Purpose:Verify the influence of vibration on the performance of terminal-crimped wire and its components.
Vibration types:Random vibration, sinusoidal vibration.

VII.Mechanical impact test

Purpose:Verify the impact resistance of the terminal-crimped wire and its components or evaluate whether its structure is firm.
Test waveform:Half-sine wave, square wave.

VIII.Hot and cold shock test

Purpose:Evaluate the influence of the terminal-crimped wire on its functional quality under the rapid change of temperature difference.

IX.Temperature and humidity combined cycle test

Purpose:Evaluate the effect of the terminal-crimped wire on the performance after storage in an environment of high temperature and high humidity.

X.High temperature test

Purpose:Evaluate whether the performance of terminals and insulators changes after exposure to high temperature for a specified time.

XI.Salt spray test

Purpose:Evaluate the salt fog corrosion resistance of terminal-crimped wire, terminals and coatings.

XII.Mixed gas corrosion test

Purpose:The corrosion resistance of terminal-crimped wire exposed to different concentrations of mixed gases and its effect on its performance were evaluated.

XIII.Wire swing test

Purpose:Evaluate the condition of the terminal-crimped wire during sloshing, rocking and motion and its influence on its performance.
